Why Choose Devon?

Why Choose Devon?   Devon is the third largest county of England and often named as one of the top places to live.  In 2009 it was voted the best county by County Life and in 2017 The Sunday Times listed Exeter as one of the Old Favourites as a place to live.  As well as that, Chagford, Exmoor, Kingsbridge, Tavistock and Totnes were listed in the best places to live in the South West. There are plenty of opportunities for living by the sea and it’s the only county with two coast lines, both having very different characteristics.  The north has wide open beaches and great surfing, in the South there are calmer waters with estuaries and fishing villages along the coast. It’s the 3rd largest county in area but only 11th in terms of population density allowing for a sense of space, both in the countryside, villages and within the smaller cities.  The Council have looked to encourage international company relocation and it has higher employment levels than the UK average.  The tourist industry is huge in Devon. Exeter is renowned for its low crime rate, high quality of life and flourishing arts scene, which includes the Royal Albert Memorial Museum – the 2012 Museum of the Year- and the Exeter Phoenix arts centre. v Devon - as told by the locals v Devon Schools v Devon Local Businesses v Devon Forums Things to Watch Out For There are 7 grammar schools in the geographic county of Devon, but there are three different admission authorities involved in the admissions process: Devon County Council, Plymouth & Torbay.
