Hi Lucy, I agree with everyone here.. Woodbridge is lovely – though when we were househunting, properties were extremely scarce, so we ended up moving just south of Bury St Edmunds. (And are pleased we did!) We still kept our yacht at Tide Mill in Woodbridge and loved sailing on the Deben.
Bury St Edmunds is also lovely with lots to do and good choices of local villages to live in. There are excellent independant shops as well as the major retailers and supermarkets to access locally. We are south of Bury and the countryside here really is beautiful with gentle rolling hills and some gorgeous ‘chocolate box’ houses to search out.
For us, access to the western side of the A14 has been a real boon as it means we can access Stansted airport in about 40 minutes, London is only 90 miles away, and we are in striking distance of ferry ports as well as having good access to the rest of the country via our starting point of the A14.
We don’t have children so can’t comment on school options but there’s certainly a lot to choose from here.
    Good luck!
