Hi all. Having made good use of this site over the past year or so in trying to work out where to move to, we have just had an offer accepted on a house in Farnham – so finally going to discover what life after london is actually like! Moving to Lower Bourne area (assuming all goes well) and would v much welcome any recommendations as to nursery schools – and also playgroups in the area.March 13, 2013 at 5:27 pm #4266
Hi – I don’t have any personal experience of schools in this area but this link might help as it gives the names and it might be easier to find out about them on social media when searching by a name. For nurseries: http://www.farnham.gov.uk/life/education/nurseries.html and for playgroups : http://www.farnhamcommunity.org.uk/leisure_tourism/kids/playgroups.asp
Good luckMarch 13, 2013 at 9:18 pm #4267
We live in Lower Bourne – I have a 3.5 y/o and almost 23 month. There are three nursery/pre-schools in the village that do from age 2.5/3, term-time only morning or short day sessions. I looked and liked all of them and all are good in terms of ofsted etc. I think a lot will depend on where in the village you will be living and where has spaces. Woodlands just off the green was taken over by a small local chain a couple of years ago and has, I understand, really improved as a result (was under previous management when I looked). They do mornings and a couple of afternoons a week I think but last I heard has waiting lists but this can change! Bourne Nursery is in a hall on the Burnt Hill Rd side of the village which had a really nice feel, does some afternoons as well as mornings. Hall was a bit tatty but again this may have changed as was 2.5 years ago when I looked! Lollipop Tree is at the top of Vicarage Hill in the newly refurbished Bourne Hall. Part of a small chain of 3. My son goes here – I really liked the owner and previous manager when I was looking and it is walkable from my house but also en route to the nursery my daughter is at until she is old enough to go to Lollipop so convenience was a big factor. My son loves it – looks forward to going every day likes the fact they have a theme, colour, phonic, shape and number each week and always chooses what to take in for the show and tell table before he goes to bed! Staff great and parents friendly. To be honest as I said earlier I have heard good things about all of them, so I guess a lot will come down to location and spaces. Playgroups – there is one at the church in the Bourne (mother and toddler) and lots of classes – music, sports etc going on in and around the town. I do a lovely music class with my 23 month old. Happy to go into more detail and if you need any more info on the village,or would like to meet up when you move let me know and will give you my email address. Hope the move goes ok! Our Burns & Webber office in Farnham are experts in the area, after speaking to them they’ve recommended you look at Bourne Nursery School 01252 716683 ages 2 – 5.
If you are simply looking to find out what schools are in the area, we have a great school locator on our website, just type Lower Bourne into the search bar and it gives you all the ofsted ratings, reports etc all in one place. http://www.burnsandwebber.com/local-schools
We’d be happy to help you discover more about the area, call our office in Farnham – Burns & Webber 01252 713868. Good Luck!March 14, 2013 at 1:47 pm #4269
Thank you all. This is incredibly helpful! Ruth, I expect I will be in touch with many more questions as you are about a year ahead of me children-wise so presumably have done everything I will need to do in due course!
Out of interest, do the local primary schools not have nurseries attached to them? Or are the local nursery schools all private?March 14, 2013 at 10:57 pm #4272
Hi Lucy – no worries please ask away if you have any questions!! None of the infant/primary schools here have nurseries attached to them – different to other areas I know. So they all feed into different schools although usually have groups of children going to each school so your child will not be going on alone…if that makes sense! Hope the move goes ok! There are many Toddlers and Nursery groups in Farnham. I run both a Babies group and a Toddler group at the baptist Church. They are both very popular and open to all. You would be very welcome. DaphneMarch 21, 2013 at 10:07 am #4447
my name is Hollie and I am the Information and Advise Officer and The Potters Gate Sure Start Centre in Farnham Town. We run many activities such as a play and learn session, dads group, health visitors clinics and many more. Your home childrens centre would actually be Elstead and Villages Childrens Centre if you are in Lower Bourne but you are welcome to use any universal services at any Children.s Centre. We hold information on local nurseries and toddler groups along with childminders, benefits and employment opportunities. Please look on our website or contact the centre for more information. 01252 891250March 27, 2013 at 2:06 pm #4631
