We live in London currently and are looking to move down to Sussex ( East or West). We saw a house we fell in love with in Maresfield. What is the village like? I’m really keen to live in a sociable village where there is a real community and is very sociable. Could you advise on villages close to Maresfield that fir the bill.
May 25, 2016 at 12:03 pm #16879We had this message from the Uckfield News
I’ve had a look and would respond but haven’t got time to log in at the moment because I Maresfield is a very nice village with primary school, gym club, tennis club, bowls club, nice village hall all within it. Uckfield is the town right next door and there’s a secondary school Uckfield Community Technology College at the Maresfield end of town. Maresfield is within easy reach of Tunbridge Wells, Lewes, Eastbourne, Brighton and there is a train service to London Bridge. It’s a good place to be.
May 26, 2016 at 10:18 am #16891We live in Buxted and although I’ve never lived in Maresfield I would think it’s quite similar, although for us Buxted wins hands down (obviously!!), there is a train station with links to London, a lovely school, it is equally close to Uckfield and has a great village centre (the medical centre is great, there are clubs for kids and we even have a village party). You are right in the middle of the countryside with lovely walks on your doorstep.

We lived there for nearly 5 years. It is quiet but I loved it. A real village feel – although obviously being involved with the church gave us a foothold in lots of things. The school is great with a real family feel, the pub changed hands a few times and is good now – though patchy when we were there. There is a little shop – emergency use only!!. Basically, the people are fab – quite a polarised community though, socially. I think if you didn’t have children it would be rather difficult to find a way into community life, although there as a drama group and badminton etc.
There’s also tennis and bowls club – surprisingly a lot for such a small village.
Uckfield, a bigger town, is literally, 2 miles away – walkable if you fancy it. Good shops and a fab little cinema. BIG PLUS – in the heart of Ashdown Forest – stunning countryside around.
I loved it there – but not a ‘happening’ place – but strong on community. Hope that helps!!
