Box Hill

Why Choose Surrey?

Surrey has a double edged sword to it’s reputation.  Much of the county is located well within commuting distance, and therefore in parts it has a reputation as the ‘stockbroker belt’ and the houses come with price tags to match.

However, to overlook Surrey for this reason would be to miss out on much of the beauty of the County. The Surrey Hills span from Haslemere to the Kent border and include the well known Hog’s Back with stunning views across the county.

There are a number of characterful local towns including Guildford, Dorking, Godalming and Leatherhead.

There is no doubt it’s a busy county but there are plenty of hidden gems if you look hard enough.

Added to which there are there are seven villages and towns in Surrey which made the Country Life list of best places to live near London, mostly thanks to the county's proximity to the capital.  To read the whole article visit this link

Things to Watch Out For

Stations are very busy in the mornings as are the trains.  Work out where you will park if the station is full.

The Dorking branch of the South West Trains service is not the fast service and can be a pain.

There are some great primary schools in the county, but check out secondary options before committing to an area.

It’s well located for Heathrow and Gatwick - be aware of flight path traffic.

The Commute

Trains from Surrey are almost all under one hour going into Waterloo, London Victoria and London Bridge.  From Redhill you can get the Thames Link to Blackfriars, Farringdon and St Pancras.

Things to Do in Surrey

Bikes are big in Surrey!  Masses of cycle paths including the Downs link between Guildford and Horsham.  You can pick up a map at the tourist office or read about the routes online.

It’s also a great county for golfers, apparently, there are more courses than any other county in the UK, including the famously beautiful and challenging Wentworth.

Brooklands Museum and the Sculpture Park make for a great day out.  Also a trip to the Spike Heritage Centre if you have a moment.  It’s a tiny museum showing the history of the workhouse.

Polesden Lacey and Loseley Park are beautiful for a visit, and of course plenty of gardens in the area including Wisley and Winkworth Arboretum, Alice Holt Forest, Clandon Park
