Living In Essex–Quotes Directly from the Locals

Essex

"Beautiful villages in Essex! Just north of Chelmsford (1 hour to London) Fab schools. Grammar schools. A big surprise for me being brought up in beautiful Devon! Essex is amaze!!" -- Instagram user @zulucowbylucy

"I love the fact that within just a 5 minutes drive of pretty much anywhere in Essex, you can find yourself surrounded by fields and farmland. There is some absolutely beautiful countryside around us, aswell as lots of top eateries where good, local produce is being more and more widely used. If the country isn't your thing, Old Leigh on a summer's evening with fresh prawns and cockles, a pint of cider, live music and sunset estuary views...what more could you ask for? we also have our very own Southend Airport which is AMAZING. Modern and speedy, I hate having to go to any other airports now, so spoilt! we love North Essex and weekends on little boats at Dedham, complete with picnics." -- Instagram User @plumtreecottage_essex

"Here on the Essex Suffolk Border I love that I am on the edge of the beautiful Constable Area of Natural beauty. Gorgeous coast within - short and easy drive, brilliant schools, close to Stansted airport, much more property for your money, amazing and innovative places to eat. Plus an hours journey into London to work and for pleasure if that’s your thing. I moved from London 12 years ago and it was the best decision!" -- Instagram user @essexmumofone

"The country side is beautiful. I live on the coast and it is always lovely to have a walk down the beach. Lots of nature walks and wildlife reserves too. It's nice to live on the coast too as the air is amazing. I like that the railway station means London is commutable but that I can live outside the city." -- Instagram user @essex_allotment

Essex

"Stansted Mountfitchet is a nice village and has its own train line. Bishops Stortford is officially Herts but on the border and is a big town with lots of families. Saffron Walden is also really nice but no train line. So depends on your requirements." -- Instagram user @mrsmcl

"Once you get used to living by train times, it is very easy. My commute is 50 mins most days, we wake up to beautiful skies and greenery, a canal nearby for bike rides and walks as well as watching the boats potter along and the swans. The sense of community is great; we actually chat to our neighbours, have a residents association and I know my postman. Okay so the choice of good restaurants is a bit more limited but I just do more cooking at home with ingredients from the local farm shop. So all in all, I am very happy with our move." -- Instagram user @leevalleylife
