Hi Richard – We are currently renting a house in Elsdon before we begin our property search for a place to buy. We’d certainly be interested in hearing more about the one you have for sale. Is it in Elsdon?

Paul – I haven’t forgot your offer to meet up. We’ve just been settling in over the last few weeks – which we’re just about there with! I don’t suppose you’re going to the meeting in the village hall this evening?

As an update to everyone else, we’re now 8 weeks in to our relocation. It’s a major adjustment from living in the middle of London; but overall we’re very pleased with our decision. The weather has helped over the last few weeks! The people in Elsdon have been very welcoming and we really feel like we’re settling in.

Lindsay – Thanks for the twitter contacts – all are now being followed!

Paul – Thanks so much for your reply! It’s great to hear there is a good community established in the village. We’re looking forward to joining in!

We’ve just had confirmation on our move and we’ll be up there in just a few weeks so I’ll get in touch once we’re unpacked – it would be great to meet up. Thank you for the offer.

    Hello again all,

Thank you all for your further replies.

Lindsay – thank you very much for your offer of posting up your twitter contacts. That would be brilliant and a great way for us to get involved in the area before we actually relocate. We’ll also be sure to check out the coastal areas – some of them look just amazing.

Valdine – we stayed in Morpeth (at Castle View B&B) the last time we visited. Both are lovely and it would be amazing to find somewhere for our new home and business a short distance from a town like that, or one of the towns on the coast.

Nom – we picked our wedding cake up from the M&S in Hexham (we got married at Langley Castle a few years back)! It is a superb town – I imagine that we’re going to be priced out of the vicinity given the size of land we need for the holiday let business though.

We shall see fairly soon though – we’re filming end of April / early May for Escape to the Country so I’ll let you all know where they take us!

    Hi All,

Thanks for all your replies; they’re really helpful!

We visited Northumberland a few weeks back when we went to look at places to rent and drove though many of the places that you’ve all mentioned. We never made it as far north as Berwick as we thought that Alnwick would be about the maximum for communting into Newcastle for work.

We love Hexham and Corbridge – they’ve both have so much character. Although we settled on going up to Elsdon to rent so we really got a feel for what it was like to live properly rural. I think it’ll be a really good test of whether we’re actually prepared for the very different lifestyle!

We’re also hoping to buy a place with a decent plot of land (about 5 acres) to try and start our holiday let business on – and I just don’t think we’d get anything within budget close to Corbridge or Hexham – I think we’re going to end up being somewhere a bit further out.

We’re going to be visiting again in May as we’re filming with BBC’s Escape to the Country to help us with the move. Hopefully they can help us work out where to base ourselves for the long term!

Victoria – thanks for your offer of putting us in touch with people. Once we’ve moved up in May it would be lovely of you to do that so we can start meeting people.
