We are considering a house in Winsley, west of Bradford-on-Avon, and wondered about community spirit, activities, reasonably sedentary clubs concerning arts, history, music etc (we are retirement age!) and generally ease of getting to know people and making friends – any suggestions or opinions?

I don’t know the village particularly well, but do know that Bradford on Avon is a very lively place with a good social community. The Wiltshire Music Centre is there http://www.wiltshiremusic.org.uk which holds great concerts if you like that sort of thing and I know it has a tennis club but that’s probably not quite what you’re looking for!

I have had some great feed back about Winsley through twitter
@hartleyfarm suggested the following “we’ve the best local community! Check out out parish website for lots of news & events http://www.winsley.org.uk/

and also the editor of the local magazine suggested the following answer….
“May I suggest you inform your enquirer that they can email the webmaster@winsley.org.uk with any information / questions that they cannot find on the website and I am sure they will be happy to answer any question they might have about the village.”

    hope that helps.

Sadly tennis club is no longer of use to us: my husband has a new knee, and I have ME, so we’re not particularly athletic! But the music sounds great.

Thank you so much B for your information – I shall follow it up. The pressure is on – I wonder why … ?!

Winsley is a great village between Bradford on Avon and Freshford. V good local pub and good community spirit.
Idea: Why not come down for a weekend and stay in a B&B in the village. The owners will know everything about the village. I can recommend http://www.stillmeadow.co.uk
