It looks like we have had our offer accepted on a house – fingers crossed! Could anyone recommend a good local surveyor please to do the necessary checks on the property?

The house has some thatch (eek!) so if anyone also knows of a thatcher who we could contact to look at the condition of the roof and advise as the remaining lifespan and how much it would cost to re-do in future that would be a huge help.

    Many thanks

    Hi Alex,

My father is a Chartered Surveyor, based in the village of Bledlow, obviously within striking distance of Aylesbury/Thame. Users of Life After London have used him before and have been very pleased with the service. His name is Martyn Timberlake, practice name McEwen & Timberlake, 01844 347575. The only problem is that he is away on holiday next week (1st-5th July). Alternatively we can recommend a friend/colleague of ours – David Buchanan of Buchanan Surveys, based in Thame – 01844 213 827.

It is most likely a Building Survey you will be looking at for this type of property.

Finally, a thatcher we have had contact with in the past are Cox & Roberts – 07765 407447 or 07815 516775. The Building Survey should however contain a certain amount of detail with regards to the condition and lifespan.

    Hope this helps,

    Chloe.

    Hi Alex

Looks like Chloe has beaten me to it! As well as Martyn (who we would also recommend) you may wish to speak to Adrian Alder of Herrington Associates who can be reached on 01494 452339. http://www.herringtons.co.uk.

    Hope that helps.
