We’re planning on a move to the south coast, hopefully this year. We’ve been looking at Worthing which seems great. We are in our 40’s and bringing up our 4 year old daughter so want to find somewhere with a fair amount going on for kids of all ages. Hubby is a freelance photographer and will need to get into London fairly regularly for work. We’re keen to hear from Worthing based people if you recommend it. Pro’s and cons of Worthing, which parts are good to live in. Surrounding areas between Portslade to Littlehampton any good? We don’t have a big house hunting budget so can’t afford any particularly expensive areas.February 6, 2017 at 1:57 pm #18097
Hello! So we moved down to the south coast a year ago and we love it! We live in shoreham by sea which is towards London from Worthing, and we love it but something crazy has happened to house prices in the past year so you will definitely get more for your money in Worthing or portslade. We don’t have kids, but my cousin and her husband who are in their early 40s live in Worthing with their twin daughters who are 5 – they love it! They’ve been there since before the girls were born and it seems there is loads to do, and the school that they’re at is the best one (I can ask which one it is if you’d like as you may want to look in that catchment area?) they also have made friends easily and there’s enough for them to do too – especially with shoreham nearby (it has lots of restaurants) and Worthing is getting more to it all the time. I don’t know so much about portslade, but it seems a lot of people who live there commute into London. If your partner is doing so too (we do) I would just say make sure you choose somewhere like Worthing that’s on the main train line to London – as you don’t want to be changing. Visit Worthing etc all have active twitter and instagram feeds so check out a few as you’ll get a taste for what’s going on. If you have any more specific questions i would be happy to help if I can ???? Honestly moving to the south coast is the best decision we ever made i would highly recommend it ????February 6, 2017 at 1:59 pm #18098
My cousin lives in the west Worthing area which is nice near a very good pub called the Thomas Beckett I think so around there is good!February 8, 2017 at 4:50 pm #18122
That’s very helpful, thank you. It’s good to know that you enjoy Shoreham and that there’s lots going on there. We did look at the area briefly but realised we couldn’t afford what we’d want there unfortunately. Worthing seems like a good option because it seems like a good sized town. I’m glad to hear that your cousin and her family enjoy living there. Thanks for giving me an idea of where they live and it being a good area as we haven’t got a clue as yet. We’ll definitely need to do a few trips down to investigate further. If you get a chance, could you let me know which school the twins go to as I haven’t an idea of which are good ones. Many thanks!

Hi Maribel. Glad to be of help! The school is the Vale http://www.vale.w-sussex.sch.uk/page/default.asp?title=Home&pid=1 apparently very good! Yes Worthing is lovely, lots going on, and seems to be getting better all the time. I actually just wrote a couple of blog posts on commuting to London (for your hubby) and also why we swapped London for the seaside – in case of any help! https://seasidelivingblog.com/category/life-by-the-sea/ Good luck with the search and move!
