I just thought it might be an idea to let anyone know our experience of moving to a rural location from being used to having all amenities close by. We planned our actual house move for the day after our daughter finished high school. This way, we knew we had the whole of the school holidays for her to explore and hopefully settle in a little. Our daughter had always intended to go to college and so we helped her arrange interviews at Grantham, Boston and Lincoln. We attended each of these together, but let her make her own decision in the end. Also, as soon as we moved, it was our primary focus to help her get a Saturday job in our local village. This may sound a little harsh or pushy, but it was well worth it, she made lots of friends straight away and felt confident and settled far sooner than we expected – she also had her own money to spend. All in all, I suppose we were quite lucky, apart from looking around the garden at the growing vegetable patch in disgust because it wasn’t a mobile phone or computer, our daughter settled in really well and now when we ask her, she would not even consider moving back to our modern home in West Yorkshire.
