hey folks, wondered if anyone can give some specific suggestions

We currently live in California, moved there from Streatham and when we return home in a few years it sadly (for me) won’t be to London. We would need to be close enough for regular trips to London for work though not necessarily daily commutes. We always thought Brighton but as our money can go a bit further outside, I was wondering about other places – I’ve been looking further along the coast at Lymington but maybe there’s somewhere in between.

I am a bit of a fan of decent coffee shops and nice pubs, we have two children who’ll be transitioning from primary to secondary school and we’re fairly young parents (had them in our early 20’s). I would like to live in a town that feels like there’s stuff going on, easy reach of Chichester/Brighton/artsy cultural theatrey towns would be a plus and aware that wherever we settle we’ll have teenagers so would prefer them not to have to be ferried through the countryside

Am I basically restricting myself to Brighton after all?!

Speaking as someone who is well beyond having school-age children and who has recently moved to Brighton, I say you could do a lot worse. Of course, there’s no telling what it’ll be like in 3 years time, but for now, the easy links to London, lots going on locally, and easy access to the South Downs and outdoor activities make this area a winner for me.

I’m sure there are options that other people are more qualified to tell you about, but I would say, don’t discount Brighton just yet.
